Dentures

Dentures are special prosthetic devices designed to replace missing teeth. You can take them out of your mouth and put them in. They are delicate, and you will need some period of time to get used to them. The feel you will get when wearing dentures is not the same as the feel you have with your own natural teeth. However, today, dentures are highly comfortable and they have natural look so no one will notice the difference.

There are two types of dentures, and those are full (or complete) denture and partial denture.  Full ones can be either conventional or immediate. The first type is placed once all of the teeth are removed and the gum tissue healed. It is usually after several weeks (8-12) after all of the teeth have been removed. In the healing period after teeth have been removed that may last for several weeks, a person will wear immediate denture which. This type of denture can be placed right after teeth removal. Partial dentures are used when there are some natural teeth. These dentures come with a metal framework that is attached to person’s natural teeth.

After getting them, you will certainly need some time to get used to them. As we mentioned, the feel is not the same as it is with natural teeth. Some people need a few weeks to get used to them. It may feel strange wearing them, especially when eating and speaking. But, after a while and with some practice you will completely get used to them.

Even though they can last for a long period of time, your denture may need some remodeling after a while. Also, dentures are delicate so you have to be careful when placing them and washing them. They may crack or break if they fall.

It is very important to properly and regularly clean your dentures. When not wearing them, place them into plain water, but not hot water. They should not dry out. Clean them regularly to remove plaque and food deposits.  Before placing them back, brush your tongue and gums.

Dentures are one of the most affordable solutions for those who are missing several or all of their teeth. You may need some time to get used to them, but once you do you will feel comfortable wearing them, especially because they look natural.
